Beschrijving

This project is organized according to the addressed categories of biota and processes in a variety of methodological
approaches, spatial scales and investigation areas. The structure of the project and the communalities
in concepts and theories guarantee the mutual exchange of findings and the achievement of novel
insights in this emerging research field. Major scientific challenges are dealt with across a range of organizational
(hosts, insects, viruses, human population), spatial (continental, regional, local, organism) and temporal
scales (current conditions / future projections). The objectives of the project are to contribute to a better
understanding of the underlying processes of disease transmission to the human population. Objective 1 of
DiMoC ist to improve knowledge on processes within populations and ecosystems (Thematic Field A). Objective
2 is to better understand large-scale regional and continental patterns and processes including human
drivers and societal impacts (Thematic Field B). Objective 3 is to translate the acquired knowledge into
strategies and action (Thematic Field C). Our range of methods includes laboratory and microhabitat experiments,
landscape monitoring, and continental models, accomplished by communication tools.
