This project is an extension to the project: ‘Alternative screening and case finding methodology for HAT and introduction support for new diagnostic tools’. This project develops alternative methods for case finding and surveillance of Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT) - based on ‘light teams’ using rapid diagnostic tests (RDT) and an automated data collection system. The promising results obtained in project motivate this project for an extension.
The overarching strategic goal of the extension is to demonstrate HAT can be eliminated in a district through more efficient HAT screening based on the above ‘light teams' in combination with the rollout
of ‘tiny targets’, a novel form of tsetse control and backed up by an electronic decision support system.
