Wim Vanden Berghe has been working as a sociologist on health issues since 2004. At the sociology department of Ghent University, he coordinated several research projects on mental health outcomes and sexual risk behavior among MSM using quantitative and qualitative methods. Since 2009, he has been working as assistant professor at the Unit of Epidemiology and Control of HIV & STI.

In this function, he was involved in the online EU EMIS survey, coordinated a venue-based HIV prevalence study among MSM in Flanders (Belgium) and is currently conducting interviews among HIV/HCV co-infected patients at the Aids Reference Centers of Antwerp and Ghent. His PhD in sociology at Ghent University is planned for 2011.

Apart from research, he has been involved in education at the Department of Sociology, Ghent University, teaching both methodological and theoretical courses.
