Dr. Sandra Van Puyvelde is a postdoctoral researcher in the Unit of Diagnostic Bacteriology, headed by Prof. Stijn Deborggraeve. In 2009, she obtained her Master degree in Bioscience Engineering with specializations in Gene Technology and Bioinformatics at KU Leuven. As a research fellow supported with a specialization grant from the Agency for Innovation by Science and Technology (IWT Flanders), she conducted a PhD at the Salmonella and Probiotics group at the KU Leuven, headed by Prof. Jos Vanderleyden. In 2014, she obtained her PhD degree in Bioscience Engineering. In 2016, she obtained an advanced Master degree in ‘Statistical Data Analysis’ from the University of Ghent.

In 2015, Dr. Sandra Van Puyvelde joined the Unit of Diagnostic Bacteriology at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp. In her research, she uses whole genome sequencing approaches to understand the transmission and nature of bacterial infections in the tropics, as well as their resistance to antibiotics.
