Pierre Lefèvre graduated as a sociologist at the Free University of Brussels in 1985. In 1989, he started his career as a researcher at the Nutrition Unit of the Department of Public Health (DPH) of ITM under the guidance of Prof. Beghin. In his first years, he mainly worked on the development of a participatory planning and evaluation methodology for complex intersectoral nutritional programs. He linked this research to a PhD project entitled «Actors and Project Evaluation. Towards a Pluralistical Approach of Evaluation» under the direction of Prof. P. de Maret (Laboratory of Cultural Anthropology, Free University of Brussels) that he successfully defended in 1999.

In 1995, he got interested in the study of lay perceptions of nutrition related diseases (malnutrition, anaemia, obesity). He then got involved (1997-2002) in studying lay perceptions of child growth and development in Peru and Bolivia. From 2002 to 2007, he coordinated the socio-anthropological work package of a research on nutritional transition in Tunisia and Algeria. In 2005 he moved to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Unit of the DPH where he provides methodological support (design, analysis) to qualitative research components of various epidemiological projects and to Southern partner institutes.

His current interest is on institutionalization of community-based vector control strategies and on acceptability studies of various vector control interventions.
